What’s that, you might ask? Good question. Have you ever assumed the progressive jackpot will reset to zero once it has been won? So, if someone wins, say, $342,000 on a progressive jackpot, it will go back to $0.00 and start rising from there.
Well… that’s not how it works. Every slot game has a seed value – the value at which the jackpot will begin climbing from once someone has won it. Let’s say someone wins a progressive jackpot worth $24,000. If the seed value is $2,000, the jackpot will reset to that amount once the player has scooped the $24k.
Some of them are networked jackpots
There are two types of jackpots – standalone ones attached to a certain slot game on one casino website, and networked jackpots. The latter are jackpots that are connected to one game across several casinos.
This means all the players placing bets on the reels of that slot will contribute small amounts to the progressive jackpot. This holds true for all the casinos running that game. There is one central pot all the bets go into, and that means the jackpot will get much larger more quickly than it would if it was restricted to one casino website.
You won’t usually be asked to bet more to be in with a shot of winning the progressive jackpot
There are games – usually three-reel ones – that do demand you place the maximum three-coin bet (of any value) to stand a chance of winning the jackpot. However, most slots don’t go for this rule. Most will allow anyone betting on the game to be in with a chance of winning the big prize.
Some games offer a slice of the progressive jackpot depending on how much you bet on it. You will only be able to win the whole thing if you make the maximum bet. But these are not as common as the regular progressive jackpot slots. These are the best ones to play as you can still bet to suit your bankroll.
