It’s not every day that you come across a slot that is different from everything else you have seen. This is the case today though, as the Pond of Koi slot from Spinomenal has not long ago been released.
Koi carp are the main focus here, but as you will see, there is a very different view awaiting you…
There are four reels in this game, but no paylines are evident. Instead, wins are calculated according to how many matching characters you end up getting.
There is a good range of bet amounts here. The smallest is 20 cents, but you can increase that significantly to $200 per spin.
Seven different types of koi will appear on the reels. You need five or more of five of them to win a prize, and six or more of the most-valuable two koi. Click into the pay table so you can see which ones are worth which amounts. The most valuable win is to get 12 of the orange koi as indicated.
There are no wilds or scatters to be found here. However, you do get one very good feature throughout the game itself. If you spin the reels and you don’t win, the 5 MORE message to the left of the reels changes to 4 MORE.
This means five losing spins in a row will begin the free spins feature. This is unusual because you get to play as many free spins as it takes to win a prize. When you do, you revert to the usual pay-per-spin game. You can however trigger this meter time and time again, getting more free spins every time you have five or more losing ones.
This game is more unusual than many slots. However, it could be that only a small number of people are truly fans of this game. The free spins meter to the left is worth watching throughout the game, but is this enough to inspire you to carry on playing?
Only you can make that decision, of course. For our money, we think the game is well-designed and has some lovely detailing on the fish. We’ve played it in demo mode and we liked it, but it won’t be a lifelong favorite for us.
